Crime Prevention Tips for the Summertime
To Prevent Bicycle Theft:
Be sure to lock your bicycle to a stationary object. The best locking device is a hardened-steel u-shaped lock. (Avoid locks, chains or cables that can easily be cut or broken.) Make sure both wheels are locked and remove any accessories that can easily be taken.

Yard Security:
If you’re working outside, lock the doors to your house, and the garage. Don't keep ladders or other equipment in the yard that could be used to gain access to your home. Keep shrubs, bushes, hedges, and fences to a height of three feet or less. Keep trees trimmed to a height of six feet or more. Solid fences can prevent neighbors from watching out for each other. Consider chain link or picket-type fencing. Residential lighting should be used to light up home- entry points. Motion detector lights are an inexpensive deterrent for areas where continuous lighting is unnecessary.
Home Security:
Put key locks, with at least a three inch throw, on outside doors to your home. Keep windows locked at all times. If you’re going to be out-of-town for several days, ask a trusted neighbor to open your curtains in the morning, and close them at night. Also, ask them to turn various lights on in your house.
